Dr Patricia (Trish) O’Rourke came from a business background to psychology 20 years ago due to her interest in human nature and self-actualisation.  Over that time Trish has provided psychology services in a diverse range of settings including John Oxley Hospital, employee assistance programs, family violence groups, and her own private practice. Trish also has experience in lecturing, project coordination and supervision in academic settings. Trish founded Indigo Health for Mind & Body, an integrated allied health clinic, in 2011.

Trish is passionate about supporting others to achieve their goals and to live a happy and satisfying life.  Specifically, Trish works with clients to identify their individual strengths and resources and to facilitate clients understanding and strategies (the “how to”) for personal growth, inner peace, and optimal living.

“We cannot change the wind but we can change our sails” is a general saying that captures Trish’s philosophy.  That is, that sometimes we have traumatic experiences or difficult life events that are unchangeable but we can change the way we think and respond in order to live life more fully and peacefully.

Trish recognises that, for many clients, seeking help is a difficult and courageous action.  Trish provides a caring and non-judgemental therapeutic environment and uses evidence-based psychological treatments to reduce client distress and advance client goals. Trish works with a broad range of presenting problems including anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, grief and loss, self-worth, work/life balance, and couple relationships.

Trish believes in life-long learning and continues to pursue personal and professional development.  She was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology in 2006.  Trish has a particular interest in attachment, abuse, and couple relationships.  She combined these areas of interest in her Doctoral thesis, Fire & Ice: Attachment, Attributions, and Withdrawal in Couple Relationships, which involved research with over 170 dating and newly married couples.

Trish also has an interest in clinical hypnosis and has completed advanced training in Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy with Dr Michael Yapko who is internationally renowned for his work with depression and clinical hypnosis.
