Rachael Ambler - Clinical Psychologist - BA(Hons), M.Clin.Psych., MAPS
Rachael Ambler has 15 years of clinical experience and has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, community clinics, and hospitals. She established her private practice 12 years ago, and continues to enjoy working in it part-time. She has a Master of Clinical Psychology degree; is a member of the Australian Psychological Society’s Clinical College of Psychologists; and is an endorsed specialist clinical Medicare provider. Rachael is committed to lifelong professional development and regularly engages in peer supervision.
As a clinical psychologist, Rachael specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of psychological problems affecting individual adults and adolescents. She strives to provide her clients with a supportive and empathic therapeutic environment, and is very passionate about her clinical work. Rachael views it as a privilege to walk alongside someone as they move through challenging times, and believes that times of suffering often provide the greatest opportunities for personal growth. Rachael always strives to provide her clients with a warm and caring environment in which they feel safe and accepted.
Rachael is married with two young daughters and one very indulged dog. She enjoys playing and coaching netball, dancing, reading, and being involved in church and her children’s school activities.
Rachael works with a variety of different issues, including anxiety disorders, depression, grief and bereavement, stress, relationship concerns, adjustment issues, and existential/spiritual concerns. She has a special interest in helping people who have experienced trauma. She has advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy – an evidence based treatment for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She also regularly utilizes clinical hypnosis in her work, and has completed 100 hours of training in Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy with internationally renowned psychologist Dr Michael Yapko. Other therapeutic approaches she uses include Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, Schema Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Psychodynamic Oriented Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. A thorough psychological assessment is always initially conducted and treatment goals are decided collaboratively. Client satisfaction and progress is evaluated often throughout the process.
Rachael facilitates interpersonally oriented groups for adults. Group therapy is a great opportunity for people to put what they are learning into practice. It enables people to gain feedback about how they present themselves in relationships and to practice new communication skills. Groups can be confronting but can also be extremely effective.
Rachael has been STAP trained and is an experienced clinical supervisor.
